Samoa wing Alesana Tuilagi will miss this weekend’s Rugby World Cup Pool B match against Scotland after he was suspended for five weeks.
Thirty-four-year-old Tuilagi who plays for Newcastle Falcons hit Japan’s Harumichi Tatekawa with a knee in the second minute of Saturday’s loss to the Asian side.
The Samoans have already been eliminated from the play-offs but a victory for Scotland will see them qualify for the quarter-finals.
The ban means that Tuilagi will miss Newcastle Falcons first four English Premiership games.
The four matches are against Gloucester, Northampton, Exeter and Worcester.
Tuilagi will be free to play again on 10 November.
